Politician meetings in Enfield, Dumbarton and Bristol

April 2023

We met with Labour Enfield Councillor, Nicki Adeleke - Who was pleased to see her constituents taking  action for the climate and nature. It was great to hear about the work the council is currently doing for the environment, such as introducing wetlands and retrofitting homes. Councillor Adeleke also suggested we attend environmental forum member meetings, so watch this space!

In our forth meeting with Jackie Baillie, MSP for Dumbarton, she was excited to catch up and get an update on our work - It was also an opportunity for us to hear what she had been up to since we first met, including assisting local environmental groups to widen their network and opposing unsustainable activities in her area.

We met with Thangam Debbonaire, Labour MP for Bristol West - She mentioned that climate change is a top reason why her constituents contact her, and she is really keen to meet more Bristol Committers in the coming months (we'll be in touch Bristol dwellers!).

Political Engagement Highlights

March 2023

In the past month alone, we have contacted 27 politicians - from all levels of government. We're very excited to see how these relationships develop as we show them your Commitments.

We took Leeds Commitments to a Leeds City Council Committee meeting - as it was part of their general council meeting, members of the public were also there. After we presented policy asks that linked to Commitments, Councillors were keen to interact more with our work.

We also attended Leeds' Climate Emergency Advisory Committee Meeting - we presented your Commitments from Leeds and an overview of local concerns to a number of Councillors. They were keen for us to attend more Committee meetings, as well as update them with more Leeds Commitments as they come in. You can watch the meeting here!

Meet our new Cx Changemakers!

February 2023

We have been experimenting with new ways of gathering Commitments, particularly from young people in order to better represent them in our work. You may have seen that recently, we have been working with two amazing climate activists on Instagram, Tolmeia Gregory and Jessica Kleczka

Both have supported our work and made their Commitment, so as our first two Cx Changemakers, we are super excited to see where these relationships will take us. Are you someone who has a climate/nature concerned network or following? Or know someone who does? Get in touch with us, we'd love to meet you.

Are we working in your area?

Map of UK with markers

January 2023

Even though The Commitment operates across the UK, we tend to target specific areas in cycles. Our current cycle involves targeting constituencies where our staff are based, so that we can test the effectiveness of direct constituent engagement. They are:

  • Arfon

  • Banbury

  • Bristol West

  • Ealing North

  • Enfield, Southgate

  • Peterborough

  • Preseli Pembrokeshire

  • Richmond (Yorks)

  • Salford and Eccles

  • Vauxhaull

  • West Worcestershire

We are almost at the end of the 'Commitment Gathering' phase of this cycle - we want to have as many Commitments in these areas as possible before we contact MPs next month. Know someone who lives in these areas? Tell them to make The Commitment!

Keep an eye out for updates as we progress through this cycle.
